About Us

The Meneer School of Dance, founded in 1984 by Christine Meneer, is located in Munroe Falls, Ohio. Recognized as one of the premiere training schools for dancers in Northeastern Ohio, we offer classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, and creative movement for children ages 3 - 18 years.

Meneer School of Dance is home to Ballet Theatre of Ohio. Akron’s favorite holiday tradition – Nutcracker, has been performed at the Akron Civic Theatre for over 30 years. All Ballet Theatre of Ohio dancers train at the Meneer School of Dance.

Dancing is great fun and children love to be challenged! We encourage our dancers to push themselves to reach their maximum potential. They learn how to set goals to improve their strengths and overcome their weaknesses. For the younger ones, it’s all about fun, with a little bit of discipline, order and proper technique sprinkled in! As the student gets older, they learn more how to focus and concentrate on the details.

Proper early dance training is not only about teaching dance steps. The skills learned with proper dance training will complement every sport / activity such as soccer, swimming or gymnastics. The discipline, time management, thinking skills, and life lessons learned at this school will benefit in any career path they choose. Our dancers are fully trained to enter college or the professional dance world at top levels. Good dance training is an investment in your child's future.

Our Philosophy

Ms. Meneer has been blessed with the ability to inspire hundreds of children each year to get up on the stage and perform in front of huge audiences. There is a special place in her heart for the preschoolers and she loves to sprinkle as many little ones into the Ballet Theatre of Ohio's professional productions as the ballet can possibly handle. All children seen in BTO's NUTCRACKER at the Akron Civic Theatre are students at Ms. Meneer's School. Her school is best noted for its professional flair. Not only do children learn how to dance and choreograph, but they learn how to care for their body and prevent injuries. Every class, rehearsal and school performance, as well as professional performance, has Ms. Meneer's mark of excellence. There truly is a difference.

Discipline plays a key factor in the training at the Meneer School of Dance. Ms. Meneer has surrounded herself with the best teaching staff possible. Students learn discipline, how to focus and how to work hard while never giving up. These qualities will follow a child into their adult lives. Dancers are taught to pay attention to how the body works, why the body works, how to improve it and how to avoid injury. Meneer believes that it is important to train the whole body, mind and spirit, not just to teach a dance routine. Dancers who stay in the Meneer program for a significant number of years generally have an exceptionally high level of focus and discipline, a very positive self-esteem and an outstanding work ethic.
